Buchbinder domestic and abroad – Important notes for Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary and Slovakia

So that you do not experience any nasty (and potentially expensive) surprises during your tour through Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary or Slovakia, we would like to give you the most important rules in these countries. Have a good trip!

Germany

Basically, there is no speed limit on German motorways unless it is explicitly marked. Outside built-up areas you can drive 100 km / h fast - within the maximum speed is 50 km / h.
In Germany there is a driving ban if you are above of an alcohol level of 0.5. For novice drivers (under 21 years or in the first two years after obtaining the driving license) there is an absolute alcohol ban in Germany.
Everyone inside the vehicle must use a seatbelt
For children under 12 years or under 150 cm in height it says in Germany: A child seat is mandatory.
Safety vest, warning triangle and first aid kit must be on board.
At intersections without priority signage, the basic rule "right before left" applies.

Austria

The speed limit for cars is 130 km / h on motorways, on rural roads outside built-up areas at 100 km / h and in urban areas - as in Germany at 50 km / h. Attention: On the motorways A10, A12, A13 and A14 you are not allowed to drive faster than 110 km / h between 22:00 and 5:00.
The limit of the alcohol level in Austria is at 0.5. For novice drivers who are within the two years of driving the max. level of alcohol is bound at 0.1.
Every occupant must have the seatbelt fastened.
All children up to 150 cm tall or under 14 must sit in a child seat.
Safety vest, warning triangle and first aid kit are required.
There is a vignette obligation on Austrian motorways. Anyone who violates this must expect a "substitute toll" of at least 120 euros. Click here for further informations.
In front of many tunnels and mountain roads an additional toll will be charged.

Italy

On motorways in Italy you can drive 130 km / h fast, on rural roads outside closed towns it is 90 km / h and within the limit is 50 km / h.
The limit of the alcohol level in Italy is at 0.5. For violations, a fine of at least 530 euros is due. At a alcohol level of 1.5 while driving fines are given of up to 6000 Euros, under some circumstances even imprisonment
Anyone leaving their vehicle in Italy on the motorway in the event of a breakdown must wear a safety vest.
The carrying of fuel in reserve canisters is not allowed.
There is a seatbelt and first aid kit obligation
Turning, reversing or changing lanes in the toll booth area is prohibited. If you have moved in this area, press the "Help", "Richiesta di Interveniento" or "Assistenza" button.

Hungary

On Hungarian motorways you can drive 130 km / h fast. It is 110 km / h on freeways, 90 km / h on rural roads and 50 km / h in urban areas.
In principle, the alcohol level of 0 applies in Hungary. Already with a blood alcohol value of 0.5 can initiate criminal proceedings and the driver's license be confiscated.
Outside towns the headlights must be switched on during the day.
In Hungary, there is a general requirement for seatbelts, and children under the age of 12 can only sit in the back of the car.
As in Italy, a warning vest must also be worn in Hungary in the event of a breakdown on the motorway. Warning triangle and first aid kit must be carried in the car.

Slovakia

On Slovakian motorways, the speed limit is 130 km / h, on rural roads outside built-up areas it is 90 km / h and within the localities 50 km / h are allowed.
As in Hungary, the 0 level of alcohol limit also applies in Slovakia
In Slovakia there is also a headlight obligation during the day (violations can be punished with up to 70 Euro).
There is a seat belt requirement. In addition, carrying a bandage package, warning triangle and a safety vest is mandatory.
Navigation devices, when attached to the windshield, must not restrict the driver's field of vision.

Telephoning while driving is allowed in all countries only with a hands-free device. Please note that the penalties for violations can be significant!
